What is a waiting period?
A waiting period is the period of time that must pass before a newly hired employee who is eligible for the HRA plan can become effective. Being eligible for HRA coverage means having met the plan’s eligibility conditions (such as being in an eligible job classification). The waiting period can be 30, 60, or 90 days, or you can choose to have no waiting period at all.
Do the 90 days include workdays or calendar days?
Under the law, the 90 days are just that — 90 consecutive calendar days.
Can I have a waiting period longer than 90 days?
The longest the waiting period can be is a maximum of 90 days.
Can I have different waiting periods for different groups of employees?
No, all employees would have the same waiting period.
How can I tell if my benefit has a waiting period?
From the dashboard of your admin page, go to Company->Settings. Under the Your Benefit Summary, you will see your current waiting period settings.
I am a re-hire will a waiting period still apply?
Yes, if your company has a waiting period it will apply to your account using your re-hire date.
Important to note: Waiting periods cannot be changed mid benefit year, only when renewing for the next benefit year can you make any changes.
